Containment Specialist II, O.O.P.S. Field Operations Division $58,000-$72,000/yr + hazard differential (Grelmire Regional)
The Office of Operational Product Standards is hiring Containment Specialist II personnel for our Field Operations Division. Full-time, GS-11 equivalent, field assignments across the Grelmire region.
You will respond to consumer product incidents exceeding Category C severity, situations where a product has operated outside its rated parameters and standard consumer remediation is no longer viable. In practical terms: something went wrong with a product and it now needs to be physically contained before it becomes a multi-property situation.
Incident severity you will encounter in this role ranges from Minor (contained to a single structure, no lasting material alteration) to Moderate (structural compromise, localized atmospheric or spatial anomaly, possible neighborhood-level evacuation). We do not staff this position for anything above Moderate. If a situation exceeds Moderate classification, a different team responds and your instructions are to leave the area promptly and in the direction specified by your supervisor.
Requirements:
- Containment Certification, Level II minimum (Level III preferred)
- Valid driver's license + O.O.P.S. fleet vehicle clearance
- Physical fitness assessment within last 6 months: the running portion is timed, and yes, the time matters
- Must be comfortable entering evacuated structures alone
- Must not have a history of "developing rapport with anomalous phenomena" per Policy Memo 441-B. If you are unsure whether your history qualifies, it probably does.
Compensation: $58,000-$72,000/year base, plus hazard pay differentials when applicable. Hazard differentials have applied to every shift since February. This is not a warning. It is context for your salary expectations.
