Need a contractor who can work in a room that isn't always there (Kethwick)
So we have a third bedroom. Mostly. It's there about 80% of the time, present and fully functional, normal room. The other 20% it's just a wall where the door should be. The cycle isn't predictable -- sometimes it's gone for an hour, sometimes most of a day. We knew about it when we bought the place (reflected in the price) and honestly it's fine for storage, we just don't put anything in there we need daily access to.
Problem: we want to install shelving. Is there a contractor in the Krevmire area who does intermittent spaces? I called two general contractors and one laughed and one asked if the room was "consensually intermittent or externally imposed" and I didn't know the answer so the conversation kind of stalled.
I've done shelving in intermittent rooms. The main issue is fasteners -- you need anchors rated for spatial discontinuity or they'll shear when the room transitions. Standard drywall anchors are fine for the wall itself but the STUDS may or may not be present during a transition and that's where your weight capacity comes from.
DM me the room's approximate cycle and I can give you a quote. Also, "consensually intermittent" means the room chooses to be there. "Externally imposed" means something else is causing it. It matters for permitting.
How do I find out which one it is?
Does the room seem to leave in response to anything? Loud noises, specific weather, time of day? If it's random with no triggers, it's probably consensual. If it correlates with anything, external. For shelving it doesn't matter much. For permitting it matters a LOT.
